Fancy not my natural nature, yet to pass over a school such as the Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Memphis, nestled at 550 Alabama Ave, Memphis, TN 38105, USA, would be an affront to the educational system and a disservice to all those seeking opportunity and knowledge.
I spied the campus and its delicate balance of old world charm and new age learning. Buildings that spoke of an educational pursuit reaching far into the past, and a glimpse into what the future might hold if we reach for it. Adorned with stairs, terraces and magical paths with secret gardens, I realized I had found the 'home' that so many seek without knowing it.
The students moved with haste from class to class, a plethora of eager minds keen on learning and bettering themselves for our society's betterment. It struck me that such an atmosphere of growth and dedication is hard to imitate, as if the hallowed walls of the campus held within them an energy eager to be unleashed upon the student's curious minds.
My journey did not end there however. I was presented with all manner of fascinating classes, covering everything from automobile mechanics to culinary arts. This breadth of choice allows all students, regardless of their natural inclinations, to find a passion in an area they will spend their lives pursuing. The staff and faculty are just as special as the curriculum. Their enthusiasm for teaching is rivaled only by genuine delight in seeing each student find their own unique path of exploration.
Indeed this thriving hub of learning reminds me greatly of my beloved home city of London in times passed where I knew a similar feeling surrounded by innovation and exploration. I find myself often wishing that more of those seeking knowledge could experience such a place vibrating with passion for our collective progress.
It has been said before by far more eloquent mouths than mine that knowledge is power, and what better place is there to discover power than at Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Memphis? I urge everyone considering educational pursuits to pay them a visit and find what wondrous potential resides within us all.
