Here the students of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) are privy to knowledge that, in many ways, can rightly be seen as magical.

The dawn of the 21st Century saw the realization of a vision to create a world-class medical institution that would promote excellence in students of African American descent. Founded in 1975 by six distinguished faculty members—all card-carrying holders of M.D.s—MSM is an integral part of the community in Atlanta. Boasting a curriculum focused on primary care and public health, along with its ties to other emblematic Atlanta-based institutions including Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College, MSM created a synergistic learning environment for its students.

MSM holds a remarkable reputation for creating top-notch physicians – champions in their fields capable of making a notable difference throughout society by tackling the health disparities rampant in underserved communities within our nation. Among the alumni roster are doctors with training from some of the most esteemed universities throughout the US; however, many can proudly attest that it was MSM where they acquired their most valuable and rewarding education.

As we explore further into this school where magic is made, we come upon the extraordinary faculty whose commitment to unlocking the intellectual potential of their students is astounding. With an average faculty-to-student ratio of roughly 1:12, this allows for students to be guided by some of the world’s most renowned experts. Each professor is an expert in their field – directing groundbreaking clinical research initiatives and leading movements to bring reform to major issues in public health.

A testament to its caliber and impact, MSM recently received a grant from the National Institutes for Health for “re-envisioning medical education” with a focus on health disparities; this grant was one over 142 other proposals – an impressive number in and of itself! And dedication to service remains core to MSM’s mission; it was recently named a Community Engagement Institution by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
