At the Roll Shop exhibit you can watch an actual roll turner as he shapes hot steel with amazing precision.
The Industrialization section focuses on the impact of steel production on Alabama’s economy and development. Learn how Henry Ford and Thomas Edison explored innovative ways to use steel for industrial applications such as automobiles, bridges and skyscrapers. You can also view artifacts from World War II, when steel was essential in producing military equipment.
Finally, the Steel Heritage Trail is a self-guided tour of industrial sites throughout Alabama. Along the way, you will see historic factories, abandoned mines and other signs of Alabama’s industrial past.
