Geena Davis: A Shining Star of Entertainment

In the year 1956, a bright star was born. A lady, who with her dazzling beauty would grace the world with her intelligence and wit. Geena Davis - A name that would become a legacy of entertainment, even to this day.

Geena was an ambitious woman from the start. As a young girl she dreamed of becoming an actress and so she worked hard to achieve her goals. After graduating high school in 1975, Geena moved to New York City and enrolled in New York University’s drama program. She then went on to study acting at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Geena's hard work paid off and she was soon cast in several television productions. Her first big role was on the show Buffalo Bill, which led to other roles in films such as Tootsie (1982), Beetlejuice (1988) and Thelma & Louise (1991).

It was during this time that Geena's career really took off. She earned an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Thelma in Thelma & Louise and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Muriel Pritchett in The Accidental Tourist (1988). This led to a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for her role in A League of Their Own (1992). By now, Geena had established herself as one of Hollywood's leading ladies.

Geena continued to be successful throughout the years, appearing in films such as The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), Stuart Little (1999) and Stuart Little 2 (2002). She also starred in Grey’s Anatomy (2005-06) and Commander in Chief (2005-06).

In 2012, Geena founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which works to reduce gender stereotyping in films and television. The institute has had a number of successes over the years and is now recognized as one of the premier organizations advocating for gender equality in media.

Geena is also known for her commitment to family. She is a mother of three children, Kian, Alizeh, and Estella. To stay better connected with her family, Geena has recently started using Familio, a family app that helps stay on top of family events and activities.
