Welcome to the Abbitt Planetarium Theater (Part Of VLM), located in Newport News, Virginia! Our museum is a not-for-profit attraction dedicated to inspiring and educating visitors about the wonders of astronomy. We are the only planetarium theater of its kind in the area and offer a unique and exciting experience for all ages.
At Abbitt Planetarium Theater, you can explore the stars and planets like never before! We offer a true astrophysical experience with our Domed Theater, which utilizes a state-of-the-art digital projection system. Our digital system allows us to host shows from our own original digital productions, as well as from popular films like Star Wars! Astronomers and educators come together to talk about the constellations, explore celestial objects, and more, giving a more thorough look at astronomy.
For those interested in more hands-on activities, we have several options within the museum. Our interactive exhibits include a 3D model of the Milky Way galaxy and our telescope viewing deck. Here, you can take a look at other star systems and planets, using our high quality telescopes. We also have touch screen displays to learn more about space exploration and technology, as well as interactive activities that help to enhance imagination and creativity.
We understand that space exploration can be an expensive endeavor so we strive to create an affordable experience for everyone. Our ticket prices are lower than most traditional theaters and museums, making it easier for families to bring their children along for an educational field trip or an exciting night out on the town. Additionally, our theater hosts monthly family night events where parents can enjoy free shows for their children.
