African American Genealogical Society Of Northern Califorinia

The African American Genealogical Society of Northern California (AAGSNC) is a museum and non-profit organization dedicated to the collection and preservation of records and artifacts related to the African American experience in Northern California. Located in Po Box 27485 in the United States, the AAGSNC is a valuable resource for individuals researching their family histories as well as offering educational and cultural programming to the public.

The AAGSNC was founded in 1995 by a group of local researchers and genealogists who were passionate about discovering and sharing the history of African Americans in Northern California. Since its inception, the organization has grown to include more than 500 members from across the state and beyond.

The AAGSNC offers a variety of services and resources for those interested in researching their family histories, including access to its library and archives, genealogical research assistance, seminars, workshops and more. The library contains books, maps, newspapers, periodicals and other materials related to African American history. In addition to its print resources, the AAGSNC also houses an extensive digital collection including databases, photographs and oral histories.

The AAGSNC also operates an exhibit space which features rotating displays on topics related to African American history in Northern California such as music, politics and art. The organization also produces annual educational events such as the African American Family History Day held each February which features interactive activities and presentations.

In addition to its research and educational programming, the AAGSNC is also dedicated to preserving the memories of African American communities in Northern California through its oral history project. Through this project, the organization seeks first-hand accounts from individuals who were born or lived in Northern California during the twentieth century. These stories are then captured on video and audio recordings for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
