Afton Historical Museum

Welcome to the Afton Historical Museum, located in Afton, Minnesota! Our museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the fascinating history of the area and its people. From Native American artifacts to colonial-era documents, we are proud to exhibit a wide range of historical items.

The museum is housed in a historic building that was built in 1864. The structure was originally used as a trading post and general store by settler Uriah Smith. When the building was renovated in 1944, it was transformed into a museum to house the artifacts and stories of the local community.

The museum’s collection includes a variety of unique items, ranging from tools used by the first settlers to everyday objects used by 19th century residents. We also have an extensive archive of documents, including letters, diaries, photographs, and journals. These records allow visitors to explore the history of Afton through the eyes of its inhabitants.

The museum also has an impressive selection of Native American artifacts. Our collection includes tools, jewelry, pottery, and more that were used by members of the Dakota Sioux tribe who lived in this region for centuries. We also have an impressive collection of artifacts from the Civil War era, including uniforms, weapons, and other military items.

In addition to our permanent exhibits, we also host special events throughout the year. These events often feature lectures by historians and other experts on topics related to our collections. We also host educational programs for children and adults alike. Our goal is to share the rich history of this area with as many people as possible.

We invite you to come visit us at the Afton Historical Museum! Take a step back in time and explore our vast collections and learn about the amazing history of this region. Come see why we are proud to be a part of this vibrant community! Take action now and visit us today!
