Alabama Trail Of Tears Corridor Association

The Alabama Trail Of Tears Corridor Association is a museum dedicated to honoring the thousands of Native Americans who were forcibly removed from their homelands and driven over 1,200 miles along the Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears was one of America’s darkest moments, in which thousands of Native Americans were removed from their lands, forcibly relocated, and died in the process. The Alabama Trail Of Tears Corridor Association is a non-profit organization that seeks to honor the memory of those that endured this tragedy by making sure their stories are never forgotten.

The museum is located in Po Box 11145 in US and has been open since 1988. It features interactive exhibits that tell the heartbreaking stories of the Cherokee removal from their homes in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina; as well as telling stories of those who suffered and died along the trail. The exhibits illustrate the brutal realities that Native Americans faced during this time period as well as explore the impacts of the United States Indian Policy on all indigenous people living in the area. Along with interactive exhibits, the museum also houses a variety of artifacts and photographs related to the Trail Of Tears.

The Alabama Trail Of Tears Corridor Association also offers a variety of educational programs and events to engage visitors in learning more about the Trail Of Tears and its many facets. These programs include lectures by scholars on topics such as U.S. Indian Policy, local history, and Cherokee culture; art shows featuring works by local Native American artists; film screenings about the Trail Of Tears; and even field trips to nearby historical sites related to the Trail Of Tears.

In addition to its traditional educational programming, the Alabama Trail Of Tears Corridor Association also works to bring awareness to the continuing challenges that Native American communities face today. By hosting events such as panel discussions, workshops, and fundraisers, they work to promote understanding about current Native American issues and bring attention to organizations that are working to support indigenous communities such as those living along the Trail of Tears.

The mission of the Alabama Trail Of Tears Corridor Association is to educate and engage visitors in learning about this dark chapter in American history as well as provide support for indigenous communities whose involvement with government policy still reverberates today.
