Welcome to the Allen County Historical Society, a museum located in Scottsville, KY! This historic site has something for everyone—from students to adults, the curious to the experienced historian.
Young and old alike will be delighted to explore the 28 acres of land here, filled with breathtaking views of Allen County's countryside and a variety of exhibition spaces and interactive displays. The museum offers programs for adults and children that focus on education about local history, including educational workshops, lectures, and hands-on activities.
The museum's permanent collections include the artifacts of the region's earliest settlers, including Native American pottery, tools, jewelry, and stone carvings. There is also an eclectic selection of memorabilia, photographs, and documents related to Allen County's past. With over 10,000 objects in its holdings, the Allen County Historical Society is described as "a repository for Allen County’s cultural heritage" by visitors.
The museum also hosts special events throughout the year, from living history days to fundraisers and public lectures. The Annual Burley Festival is held in May and includes traditional activities such as wagon races and a parade. Other popular events include the Allen County Fair and the annual History Fair in October.
The historical society celebrates "People through Time", its theme for 2020, with events both in person and online. The Heritage Conservation Program helps preserve the county's material culture by providing assistance with historic preservation needs. The museum promotes education by loan outreach programs to schools, providing them with teaching resources to help instill values related to historic preservation in their students.

The current pandemic has led to some changes in how they operate but the museum hopes to fully open again soon
