Alto Model Train Museum Association

The Alto Model Train Museum Association provides a unique opportunity to trace the history of model railways. Located in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, this museum celebrates the culture and craftsmanship of past generations. The museum features a wide variety of trains, accessories, and memorabilia from the golden age of model railroading.

Founded in 1983, the Alto Model Train Museum Association (AMTMA) has been preserving the history of model railroading for decades. Visitors can explore a variety of detailed displays, including scales ranging from N to G. The museum also houses a large collection of period photos, artifacts, and memorabilia. An extensive library offers resources on locomotive history and construction for both novice and expert modelers alike.

The Alto Model Train Museum Association also boasts a working railroad setup in its gargantuan Duncansville layout. The impressive setup spans 40 feet by 80 feet and features more than 20 track gauges. Operators can run over 100 locomotives, with small engines such as Lionel trains and larger ones like HO Gauge. The layout has realistic scenery built to represent real locations, helping to immerse visitors in the hobby’s environment.

The AMTMA also organizes special events throughout the year. These include model railroad conventions, auction days, train meets, and more. The association also sponsors workshops and seminars in order to share the knowledge and skills unique to the model train hobby. Many of these events serve as fundraisers for local charities, helping to support the community while providing an enjoyable experience for those involved in the hobby.
