Antique & Classic Boat Society

The Antique & Classic Boat Society (ACBS) has been a landmark of Clayton, NY since 1973. With its picturesque location on James Street, the museum overlooks the mighty St Lawrence River, offering visitors breathtaking views of the blue expanse.

Situated in America’s only 1000 Islands region, the ACBS boasts a rich history of commercial maritime activity – and a unique collection devoted to antique and classic boats. Through a combination of artifacts, photographs and archives, ACBS promotes an understanding and appreciation for these vessels and gives us an insight into our maritime past.

The ACBS museum has an impressive collection of boats, curated by the National Maritime Museum in Valletta, Malta. Notable vessels include two wooden vessels from the turn of the 20th century – the Steamer Pilot and the York Boat – as well as two vessels from World War II – the PT 245 and LCVP 3517. Each vessel has its own fascinating story: from daring wartime escapades to pioneering trade and exploration expeditions.

The ACBS also features collections of photographs, stories and memorabilia from various boating events throughout history. This includes the recent America’s Great Loop and Ha-Ha races, where vessels are taken on exciting voyages across the Atlantic – allowing visitors to use their imaginations and be transported back in time.

At the museum, visitors are invited to inspect the intricate details up close; no museum experience can replicate this level of intimacy. Guests can also take part in various programs such as boatbuilding classes, sail making workshops and marine engine repairs, as well as other activities like boat parades and boat shows.

Whether you’re an experienced boat enthusiast or just a curious visitor wanting to discover something new, the Antique & Classic Boat Society offers an unforgettable experience for all ages. From learning about maritime history to experiencing boat life first-hand – this museum has something for everyone.
