Gosport Society

The Gosport Society is a voluntary, non-political, civic amenity society concerned with the history, heritage and modern development of the ancient borough of Gosport in the county of Hampshire In the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The borough is located on the western shore of Portsmouth harbour – an inlet of the English Channel. The city of Portsmouth and Gosport combined have long been the home port of the Royal Navy. The Society exists to :a) inform the public about Gosport’s civic history, people, heritage and geography; b) promote high standards of town planning and architectural design in the built estate; c) help secure the protection and preservation of historic buildings and places of public interest; d) stimulate research into the history and social development of the borough and to publish print papers and books for the benefit of residents, visitors, research scholars, tourists and municipal agents.
