American Jewish Historical

The American Jewish Historical Society is located in the heart of Manhattan at 15 W 16th St, New York, NY 10011. It is the oldest national ethnic historical organization in the United States dedicated to preserving and chronicling the history of Jews in America.

The Society was founded in 1892 by Dr. Moritz Ellinger, a German-born Jewish immigrant who immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century and established the first Jewish history museum in the United States.
