Albany Township Historical Society offers visitors a unique glimpse into the past. Located in Kempton, Pennsylvania, the museum offers a wealth of information about the area’s history. From artifacts and documents to interactive exhibits, there is something for everyone to explore.
The museum is housed inside the former Snyder homestead. Built in 1810 by Johannes Snyder, the house offers a window into life in 19th century rural Pennsylvania. It was home to seven generations of Snyders, until it opened to the public in 2019 as the Albany Township Historical Society. Inside, visitors can see original family furniture, textiles and artwork. The museum also features a collection of artifacts from the township’s farmsteads and businesses, including tools, local products, and everyday items from early settlers.
The Albany Township Historical Society also offers visitors a chance to learn more about the area’s history through its interactive exhibits. These include the “Faces of Albany Township” exhibit, which walks visitors through the lives of different families that lived in the area throughout its history. Other interactive exhibits include “A Glimpse Into Local Businesses” which traces the evolution of local businesses, and “Tools of Local Jobs” which showcases tools used through generations of occupations in the area.
In addition to its museum displays, Albany Township Historical Society also offers educational programs throughout the year that are open to all ages. These include lectures, workshops and demonstrations that focus on a variety of topics related to local history. There is also a genealogy research library for visitors who are interested in tracing their family trees.
