Big Brother is Watching You – Student Life at Vernon College

It was a bright, pleasant morning in Vernon, Texas. Sunlight flooded over the limestone campus of Vernon College. Here, students scurried towards the library, teeming with all of the knowledge they were thirsty to learn, while their peers exchanged conversation.

Everywhere one looked, a lively atmosphere ensconced all who beheld it. The college campus was alive with academic opportunity, and for good reason – Vernon College was one of the top institutes in the region. Within it contained all of the lessons, classes, and activities one could need to further their studies in specialized education. And all of this was tightly regulated by Big Brother.

This Big Brother that watches over the college wasn’t an individual, but an omniscient force of educational aptitude. These strict school regulations made sure that all rules were reflected upon and abided by for everybody's good. From rules about noise making and campsite clean up to mandatory review sessions and attendance policies – nothing got past Big Brother's watchful eye. Not only did these rules aim to better student lives, but they also strove to create a highly efficient educational experience.

And student lives were not only monitored by Big Brother but also improved upon because of it. Students had more and more opportunities available to them each year as financial aid programs were increased and other incentives implemented. In addition to this, college athletics were also revised in efforts to improve recruitment rates from neighboring towns.

The government-approved schedule for the day allowed for plenty of enjoyment in between classes as well… provided one stuck strictly to the protocol issued by Big Brother. There always seemed to be enough time for both play and education as Vernon College operated by a light and stringent workload which balanced both a competitive spirit in studying but also a social atmosphere on campus.

In deciding what they wanted out of their educational experience, students used the rules set by Big Brother as means to further their own ambitions while also helping to promote progress within the college community. As such, students not only experienced the lessons learnt in class but also valuable life lessons such as how to interact with authority and how to responsibly enjoy oneself while learning necessary skills. All in all, a Vernon College experience was unique – harsh regulations through the eyes of Big Brother only pushed students further into creating their own idea of success.
