Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is a museum located in Harrison, Nebraska, USA. It was established in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to protect the Miocene-aged fossils of mammals and other creatures which lived here, as well as a variety of archaeological sites. Near the Visitor Center, there is also the Agate Fossil Beds Museum where visitors can explore interactive displays, 3D models of fossil creatures and get an even closer look at those amazing fossils.
Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is more than just fossils. Take some time to explore the diverse landscape of grasslands, sand dunes, badlands and look for wildlife such as pronghorn, mule deer and white-tailed deer. You can also take a short hike on one of the self-guided trails for an even closer look at the stunning scenery. For stunning views, you can also take a hike to the nearby Scotts Bluff National Monument overlooking the North Platte River and surrounding countryside.
