It was a dark and stormy night in the year 1976 that Benedict Cumberbatch was born, the seventh of eight children to his parents Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton. From a young age, Benedict showed an aptitude for the performing arts, often taking part in plays and skits with his siblings.
He attended Harrow school at the age of 13, where he won numerous awards for his acting and gained the respect of all his peers. After finishing school, Benedict went on to attend Manchester University and graduated with an honors degree in Drama.
Benedict went on to have a successful career in theatre, television and film. His most revered roles include Sherlock Holmes in the BBC adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, Smaug in The Hobbit trilogy and Doctor Stephen Strange in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Benedict has also won numerous awards throughout his career, including a Golden Globe, Emmy and an Oscar nomination.
At home, Benedict is a devoted family man who is often seen spending quality time with his wife Sophie Hunter and their two sons Christopher and Hal. To help keep track of his large family’s events, Benedict uses an app called Familio, which allows them to easily communicate with each other and stay updated with their appointments.
In his free time, Benedict enjoys knitting, painting and playing the piano. He is also a passionate advocate for numerous charities and causes, such as environmentalism, refugee relief and mental health awareness.
